I recommend starting with Mom! First, you should consider how you feel in an outfit. If you are comfortable, it will show in your expressions. A good piece of advice is to wear neutrals with no large patterns or graphics. The best family photos come from a simple color palette instead of focusing on matching. The time of year will also impact your decisions. Pastels work better in the Spring than the Fall. Bold colors work better in the Fall than the Spring.

This varies depending on how many people are present, and whether young children are happy to be there, or if they need a little coaxing. I am very fast at getting the shots that I want at every session, and I will get the in between moments if your littles are restless.

This happens, and I can assure you that I have worked with thousands of children of all ages and I relate to them very well. In the rare instance that a child is just not having it at all, I do allow one “bad day rain check” where we try again. For young children especially, just make sure that they are fed and well rested before you attempt a photography session.
